I don't know if any of you guys remember this, I think it was from the 2004 Home Run Derby, or maybe even 2003... Sammy Sosa had just finished a nice round, and I believe Curt Schilling was the one with Berman... And while Sosa was waxing poetic about how he's blessed, and he's doing it for the fans, yada yada, yada, the camera cuts to Berman and Schilling, and you clearly heard Schilling say something like "Baseball been very, very good to me" in a mock Spanish accent... Then Berman quickly put his finger to his lips, like "Shhh!!"... It happened very quickly, but it was hilarious.

I agree, though, Berman is absolutely unbearable. Why he's doing play by play is beyond me. If it wasn't for Mike Piazza, that broadcast would be beyond horrible. I hope that series hurries up and finishes so we won't have to hear him anymore.

He's done a very credible job. I'm actually shocked that some of the big stars of today can be such good analysts. I still think Al Leiter is the best out of the bunch tho. I really enjoyed Leiter's commentary last year. I hope that he takes up broadcasting as he's quite good at explaining the nuances of the game without being condescending.

You're absolutely right... Leiter's commentary was unbelievably good last year... I wonder if it would be too much to have Leiter and Piazza in the booth at the same time... I figure it would be interesting to have not only two former players, but former battery-mates discussing the game as it happens. Of course, that would mean that the Yanks are out of the playoffs, so that's my little silver lining....

I can't stand Berman for any commentating. In fact, the only thing that I can stand him in is the NFL Primetime...although that is even debateable.

Madden is equally annoying. Put them together and my head would explode.

Nah its on FOX.

But Berman is the worst announcer ever. His NFL Primetime schtick was good in, say, 1992. Its old now. Very old. I want to staple my head to the carpet when I hear his voice. When he does the HR Derby crap, he sounds like he is getting a hummer every time someone hits one with his "Ohhhhhhhhhhh".

Ugh. Plus he is a major Red Sox honk, as is most of ESPN.

Berman is by far the most annoying ESPN character.

I hate his fake, raspy voice that he thinks sounds cool. I saw a clip of him from like 1975, and he was talking with his normal, high pitch voice. It was hilarious.

His "bermanisms" couldn't be anymore out of place and unnecessary.

And why does he feel the need to jump in and ruin so many sports presentations? I turn off baseball tonight when I see that he's hosting. Homerun derby is mute-able, and he's just out of place during the baseball playoffs. The worst is when he would jump in for the Stanley Cup playoffs. He hadn't covered a single event in hockey all year, yet because he's Chris Berman he's going to get his face in while the ratings are up. He sees a big event, and then decides he's going to jump in and show everyone how it's done. Yet he just ends up showing his lack of knowledge and makes himself look like a fool.

Can you tell I don't like Chris Berman?

He's said a few things each game that were interesting/insightful to the moment at hand.

He's definitely got a career in broadcasting once his playing career is done IMO.

I think Piazza is doing a horrible job. All I heard was "yep. mm-hmm. You are so right." He said some things, but he needs to do more talking, and less "mm-hmm"ing.

I think Stuart Scott wins that award by miles, but Berman is a distant second.

Funny, Mike Franchesca was raving about Piazza in the booth the last two days. He absolutely loves him and thinks he may be the best announcer doing baseball in 5 years. Only downside, which everyone basically agrees on, is that his voice is pretty crappy. I do like him though, but I dunno about being one of the greatest. Although 90% of announcers out there today completley blow goats.
